Yukon Forklift Parts - Yukon is the smallest and westernmost of Canada's 3 federal territories. The name originates from the Yukon River and means "Great River" in Gwich'in.

The territory was formed in 1898, from the Hudson's Bay Company's North-Western Territory and was first known as "the Yukon." During 2003, the federal government's most recent update of the Yukon Act confirmed the name to be "Yukon," as opposed to "Yukon Territory," as the current usage standard. The Yukon Government recognizes First Nations languages though the territory is officially bilingual with French and English.

Mount Logan, located within Kluane National Park and Reserve is the highest mountain in Canada and the second highest within North America following Mount McKinley in Alaska. Mount Logan is 19,551 feet or 5,959 meters in height. There is little precipitation in the territory and the weather is Arctic and subarctic, resulting in short summer months and long and frigid wintertimes.

Mining has always been the major industry within the Yukon district. Asbestos, zinc, silver, gold, lead and copper are the most mined heavy metals and minerals. In 1870, the government acquired the land from the Hudson's Bay Company. In eighteen ninety eight, they split it from the Northwest Territories to fill the requirement for local government created by the increase in the population because of the gold rush.

Throughout the gold rush, thousands of prospectors flooded the territory. This colourful period was recorded by authors including Jack London and Robert W. Service. The early days of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police were likewise significant during this time. The several outdoor recreation opportunities along with the beautiful natural wonders make tourism the second most popular business.

Hydroelectricity contributes to the local economy. The manufacturing business produces clothing, furniture and handicrafts. Conventional industries like trapping and fishing have declined during the years. Now, the government sector is the largest employer within the territory. They directly employ about 5,000 individuals out of a work force of approximately 12, 500.

"Larger than life" is the motto of the tourism trade for the territory. The appeal of the pristine nature of the region is important to Yukon tourism. There are many outfitters and guides to help the many anglers, hunters and nature lovers who come to the region. The abundance of rivers and lakes make it a perfect location for individuals who use kayaks and canoes. There are many trails to ride and walk on. Access to the backcountry by air or snowmobile is great for individuals who enjoy winter activities. There are opportunities to ski and snowboard and climb the highest peaks in the nation. Families can hike together up smaller mountains. There are dog sledding and ice climbing companies existing too.

Yukon is also home to a variety of sporting events and cultural activities which draw tourists, artists and participants from all parts of the globe. Some popular events comprise the Yukon International Story Telling festival, Frostbite Music Festival, Dawson Music festival, Yukon Quest, Northern Lights Centre, Sourdough Rendezvous, the Whitehorse Fish Ladder, Takhini Hot Springs together with various Klondike Gold Rush activities and memorials.
